Have you found that you need a little extra guidance while taking the course?
Do you want to discuss specific questions not properly covered in the course?
Do you want to get the most value out of the course possible?
That’s the purpose of office hours… to answer your questions and have discussions about the course lessons. Share insights, challenges, aha moments, questions, clarifications.
It’s all fair game, so let’s have a discussion and deepen the learning for everyone on the call.
What Are “Office Hours”?
Todd will hold office hours at select dates and times throughout the course. This means he will be available, live, to all members of the course.
You can ask him questions, get further advice and insights, and more, during office hours.
These are not extra lessons because everything is covered in the course content that you need to know. Instead, these are typically Q & A discussions to deepen your learning and get your questions answered.
I want to make sure each student gets full value from the course and doesn’t get stuck or frustrated. The best way to do that is through an interactive session with students.
Office hours will be held on a conference phone line so you can listen conveniently from any device from anywhere in the world. Participate in the conversation or just be a fly on the wall and listen in.
If you can’t make the calls, then make sure to check the resources area where you can download the call recordings afterward and listen in.
What’s Discussed on the Office Hours Call?
In the past, when new lessons were released, office hours discussion usually revolved around that new lesson.
However, as of Summer 2018, no new lessons have been released, so we’re holding topical office hour sessions where we focus on a singular topic that students are interested in discussing.
Here’s how the calls flow:
- I start each call by asking if anyone has anything too private for the recording. You never hear that part because, of course, it’s not recorded.
- Once completed, then I start the recording and ask if anyone has any questions about the course or course related topics that they want to cover.
- When that’s completed, then we start with the focus topic for that day.
Each focus topic is pulled from this forum thread, so if you have a topic you’d like to discuss with other students, please suggest it in that thread.
In the future, when new lessons are released, we’ll hold office hours around those lessons. You can tell whether a call will be centered around a lesson or topic as it’s indicated below. The topic will also be mentioned in our Friday email update.
If the call covers a particular lesson, it’s helpful if you’ve been through the lesson being discussed. My suggestion is to leapfrog forward before the call to do the lesson, and then come back and repeat it once it’s in proper sequence for your learning.
(Note that this isn’t necessary for general Q&A calls, since there’s no exact topic for those. General Q&A calls are appropriate for anyone at any stage of the course.)
This should get you the most value from the process, and many students tell me they like to repeat lessons 2-3 times because they keep discovering new insights.

Call In Information
In the U.S. dial (425) 436-6200 and then use passcode 205185#
Call Format:
- I will block out up to one hour in my calendar for each discussion.
- Come to the call with questions and ideas to share.
- I won’t be lecturing or delivering content on these calls because that’s more efficiently delivered in the course lessons.
- I will assume during the call that you’re up to date in completing the necessary lessons and exercises in the course.
- The purpose of the call is to clarify and deepen the learning from the lessons through discussion generated by your questions and insights shared.
Call Etiquette:
- Office hours will be conducted over a telephone conference line so that you don’t need any special equipment or computers to attend. All participants will call the same conference line and will be connected together in a virtual classroom.
- Please call in precisely at the top of the hour. I will begin with the discussion with the first caller and first question.
- Make sure to call from a private and safe place free of interruption, distraction, and background noise that can disturb the call for everyone.
- Please call from a regular land line if at all possible, or make sure you have a good cell connection.
- NO SPEAKER PHONES (Yes, I’m shouting.) They mess up the call for everyone else on the line by picking up background noise, causing feedback, breaking up communication, and more. Please don’t use them.
- If you have dogs barking, dishes crashing, water running, a television or music playing in the background, or you decide to go to the bathroom during the call, then please hang up so we don’t have to listen to it. You can call back in when you’re in a quiet spot. And yes, I was leading a call one time when a participant went to bathroom and we all listened in. Not good.
- When you participate in the conversation, it’s good courtesy to announce yourself first by saying “Todd here… I was wondering if …” or something similar so people can associate your name with your voice.
- If you call in late then please don’t interrupt the conversation already taking place by announcing yourself. Instead, wait until there is a break in the conversation and you’re ready to participate before announcing yourself.
- Everyone is encouraged to participate. The more interactive the conversation, the better for everyone. The facilitator (Todd) will act as the traffic cop and direct the flow of the conversation, but the goal is to hear input from the community (you) so we can all learn from one another.
- Please keep all comments constructive and positive so that we have a safe learning environment that invites participation.
That’s it! Simple.
I hope to hear from you on the next call!
